Mia Laamanen (Finland)

Born
in 1970.

Agility Judge
since 1997 (FCI International Judge since 2000).

I took up Agility
in 1991.

I started agility in 1991 with Epi, my Finnish Lapphund. To compete actively I started with Likka, my other Finnish Lapphund bitch. With Likka we competed together up to class 3. Epi and Likka are both enjoying their retirement. At the end of 1997 a border collie male Wäinö came to our family and he is Finnish and Swedish Agility Champion. My husband Tomi is beginning to train and to compete with him now. With border collie bitch Aino I compete in class 2. Aino has many hobbies, she competes in the highest class in obedience, in water rescue in class 1 and she has passed BH-test. We train also working trials (message trials and tracking), herding, canincross and flyball. Aino had a litter in spring 2005 and her daughter Win stayed with us. Win will be my husband Tomi's agility dog.

In 1992 I was one of the founding members of a club named AgiToko Dogs. I was its president until 1996 and member of the board until end of 1999. Nowadays I'm representing the Helsingin Agility Urheilijat club (http://www.helsinginagilityurheilijat.fi). I have been active also in our breed club, the Finnish Border Collie's and Australian Kelpie's Association (http://www.sbcak.fi) where I have been the chairman of board 2002 - 2005.

I have been agility instructor since 1992 and teaching handlers and dogs of various levels since 1992. I'm also obedience and flyball instructor and have also been organizing agility competition since 1994.

From 1991 onwards, all dog sports have be a big part of my life but the agility has stolen my heart completely.

I'm honored to be judge
at the 2006 FCI World Championships in Switzerland. This opportunity to see and judge the best agility dogs in the world is a dream come true for me. As a judge this opportunity will challenge me to design agility courses to match the level of the best dogs and handlers of the world, finding the balance of speed and technical skills in the agility course.

I am looking forward to meet Agility competitors and spectators from all over the world.
